Color-Enhanced Pink Diamonds
Let’s face the facts. Natural pink diamonds are extremely rare.
The only mine that actually produces commercial pink diamonds is the
Argyle Mine in Western Australia. And even though they mine 95% of the
world’s pink diamonds, they only generate about 10,000 carats
per year. To put that in perspective, Argyle produces 30 million carats
of colorless diamonds. So, we think the statement needs repetition:
pink diamonds are extremely rare.
Extremely rare, but not impossible to purchase, pink diamonds are available
to people who do not mind paying a heavy price tag for beauty. Pink
diamonds are the most expensive diamonds on the market. They range in
colors, from light pale pink to dark or hot-pink. The deeper and more
intense colors are limited in number, therefore more expensive than
the more common light-pink varieties.
How Do Natural Diamonds Become Colored?
Certain natural elements found in the earth contribute to a diamond’s
creation. When colorless diamonds are still forming, sometimes the carbons
become twisted. When this happens, the diamond absorbs light. It is
this absorption of light that transforms a colorless diamond into a
naturally colored diamond.
The yellow coloring occurs when nitrogen is present in a diamond.
Green diamonds are an affect of radiation.
Inclusions, or gas pockets within a stone, can contribute to flashes
of beautiful color.
What are Color Enhanced Diamonds?
There is an alternative to the costly and mysterious natural pink diamond.
Jewelers have begun to enhance the colors of diamonds to give them natural-looking,
though artificial, hues.
Color-enhanced diamonds are genuine diamonds that have been treated
by an electron beam operating at different energy levels according to
the color desired. The great thing about this new technology, is the
electron bean does not harm the diamond in any way. A pink color-enhanced
diamond is the closest thing you will get to a genuine pink diamond
for a fraction of the cost.
Why Choose a Color-Enhance Pink Diamond?
Colored-enhanced pink diamonds are less expensive than natural pink
diamonds. However, that is not the only reason to purchase a color-enhanced
pink diamond.
The diamonds used for color enhancement are not made in a laboratory.
They are real, 100% genuine diamonds.
The color will never fade. The beam penetrates the entire diamond, which
means the color will remain with the diamond forever.
Although color-enhanced diamonds are treated with electron beams, they
do not become radioactive.
Color-enhanced diamonds are available in many different colors, not
just pink. You can have a colorless diamond enhanced to be blue, yellow,
or green.
A diamond maintains its original brilliance after it has been color-enhanced.
The process does not affect the refractive index. The diamond will still
have the identical clarity and cut as it did before.
Color-enhanced diamonds look exactly the same as natural colored diamonds.
Only a trained eye can tell them apart.
Where Can I Find Color-Enhanced Pink Diamonds.
Needless to say, color-enhance pink diamonds are easier to find than
natural pink diamonds. There are many web sites online that sell these
beautiful color-enhance stones. Try Girodiam Diamonds at www.girodiam.com
or Maurice Badler at www.badler.com. Talk to a customer representative
before ordering.
Out of every 10,000 diamonds mined, only one is a naturally colored
diamond. Pink diamonds and other colored diamonds are tremendously rare,
and therefore very expensive. Why not save a lot of money and opt for
a color-enhanced diamond instead? Nobody will know the difference, but
you and your jeweler.
